Using christmas lights at the White House to teach girls how to code

Today, less than 1% of girls in the US are interested in studying Computer Science. With Google's Made With Code initiative, we're going to change that.

For the holiday season, we partnered with the White House and the National Parks Service to digitize the 56 holiday trees. Together, girls across the country could bring life to these trees with the power of code.

Girls from all over the country logged onto the Made With Code website to use code to light up their state's tree. The site was optimized for both mobile and desktop, so girls could learn code anywhere.

The project was covered by media outlets all over the country, encouraging people to join in and learn the power of code.
